POWER PRODUCTION
Redding Power is a state of the art electric generation site that ensures safe, reliable, and competitively priced power for the citizens of Redding. This 80 acre facility, originally a saw mill, was purchased by REU in the early 1990’s. Since that time, clean burning natural gas generation has been constructed incrementally to provide peaking power and base load generation as our community's need for power grows. With 185 megawatts of installed capacity, Redding Power is capable of providing up to 73% of the community's energy demand. The decision to build Redding Power enables REU to have local control of resources, and ensures a reliable supply of energy for years to come.
In addition to Redding Power, REU also owns and operates a small hydro plant at Whiskeytown dam. It provides up to 3.5 megawatts of environmentally responsible energy around the clock.
