Redding Electric Utility (REU) celebrated its 90th year of providing electricity service to the community and National Public Power Week with a series of events Sept. 30, through Oct. 7.
REU sponsored Enjoy Movies in the Park, Friday Sept. 30, at Enterprise Park. The Pink Panther, starring Steve Martin, was featured at the free public event. REU offered a complimentary bag of popcorn and bottle of water to the first 500 people at the movie.
Monday and Tuesday mornings during Public Power Week REU provided coffee and pastries to its customers outside the Customer Service walk-in payment center. In addition, REU handed out informational and promotional give-aways as well as hats and t-shirts. REU also hosted the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce greeters meeting in the main lobby of City Hall on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4.
Finally, REU staff volunteered to prepare, and serve a hot dog lunch free to the public at its Furlough Friday Free Lunch in front of City Hall, Friday Oct. 7. More than 350 people showed up to enjoy an assortment of sausages and hot dogs, chips and bottled water.
At each of the events REU customers had a chance to win a voucher for a $500 Energy Star Appliance. William Johnson was randomly selected as this year’s winner.
